I think I stumbled into what seems to be the heart of historic Boston. The North End seems have quite a lot of historic buildings and structures which sit right next to each other. Saint Stephen’s Church is a historic church which stands just across a park. This is Paul Revere Mall. I would be mistaken to think that mall in this case meant a shopping mall but this is more like a park. The Paul Revere Mall, as you might expect, is dedicated to Paul Revere who gained recognition because of his midnight ride to help warn the people of the impending arrival of the British troops. This proved to be instrumental in repelling the British and it is one of the important events in the very early stages of the American Revolution.
At one end of the mall, the one nearest Saint Stephen’s Church, is a statue of Paul Revere himself. He is depicted as mounted on his horse on the way to his famous ride. Apart from that, there is actually little else in the mall that is related to Paul Revere. You can say that the entire North End is already Paul Revere country since he lived here. Needless to say, he is probably one of Boston’s most famous residents. The mall itself is a welcome respite from the heat of the afternoon. There are numerous trees here that you would quickly forget that it is so hot. The mall goes all the way through to the next street. I think there is something else to see there.
