While COVID is still a thing as of this writing, all restrictions have been lifted and everyone is basically free to do as they please. It was a rare beautiful day in Ireland and I thought that I should go out for a drive somewhere hopefully not too far. I remembered that I haven’t been to the Great Pollet Sea Arch which is in Fanad in county Donegal. The last time I tried going there, access was closed to all visitors. It might be because of some incident which caused the landowners to close off access. Just recently, I heard that a brand new walkway was built to access the sea arch. The local county council worked with the landowners to set up a walkway that will hopefully minimize the concerns the landowners had previously.
Indeed, the construction of the walkway is a long time coming because you won’t want people walking all over your farmland to get to the sea arch. But I digress, the walkway is now open and I was excited to finally visit this place. Finding the place is already a challenge because signs to the sea arch are limited. You would see some along the way but the main turn to the village of Pollet would be very discreet. Fortunately, Google Maps knows where it is, even I would have to struggle to remember where it is since you could easily miss it.
I drove all the way to almost the end of the road where there were a few parking spots. Already there were people parked there. At the time of my visit, there is a new parking area just up the road that was still being finished up, so there will be plentiful parking for visitors coming here. Be aware not to drive too far in that you actually see the walkway down because there is no turning back. Too often people would be driving all the way in and needed to reverse back because there is no parking at the end of the road. Your best bet would be to park at the new parking area and just start walking. It is not that far to the walkway so it shouldn’t be too bad.
