One of the most well known cathedrals in the world is in Paris. Even I knew about this place way before me coming here. The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris is arguably one of the most famous churches in the world. No doubt it is also helped along by the Hunchback of Notre Dame which is the setting of the book. These days, I know of the cathedral as one of Paris’ most visited sites. I was here several years ago, and I was able to get to the cathedral, however I wasn’t able to get in because there was a huge queue outside the cathedral just to get in. I didn’t bother with it anymore thinking I would have more chances to visit next time.
Little did I know that the cathedral would burn in 2019 because of an electrical fault. Very quickly the roof was engulfed in flames partly due to the material the roof is made of. As you can imagine, the cathedral is very old having been completed in the year 1345. The gothic cathedral famous the world over was suddenly in danger of getting wiped out because of fire. Fortunately, fire services were able to control it after a few hours and much of the structure was saved. The roof wasn’t though. Currently, there is a fence to keep out visitors because repairs are being made. The process will take several years, after all the cathedral was built over the course of several centuries.
