This area of Paris seems to be a very historic area of the city. It seems that every corner I turn to has something interesting to see. From the Hôtel de Ville of Paris, I found myself heading towards the River Seine again back to the Île de la Cité. The Île de la Cité is small island that is on the river Seine. It is here where the royals of France decided to build a few historical monuments. Already, I have seen a few of them. I just left the small island just before this, now I am crossing the bridge and heading back to it.
I thought that the Conciergerie was the most significant landmark that is on the Île de la Cité but I was wrong. It turns out that there is something even more well known that that one. Towards one end of the Île de la Cité stands the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. I have completely forgotten about this one with all the other places that I have seen that morning. It is amazing that I would just run into yet another world famous monument here. I haven’t actually been inside the cathedral before but one look at it reminded me that I probably won’t be able to go inside at least for the next few years. The cathedral is being restored. I suddenly had flashbacks of how the cathedral almost burned to the ground not too long ago. Like I said, these cathedrals are genuinely beautiful, but they have a nasty habit of burning to the ground. The world is lucky that only the roof was lost and the cathedral structure is still intact.
