I was very happy with my visit to Sainte-Chapelle which is basically a stained glass windows chapel. If you have been reading these posts, you can see why I would describe Sainte-Chapelle as such. The main defining feature of the chapel is the stained glass windows. But I think it is time to go. I have been here a while and I was very impressed with it. I started to make my way back down but I noticed that there seems to be a door that leads to the outside of the second level. Where does it go?
Turns out that there is a terrace here at the second level of the chapel. The terrace wasn’t that big though. It is enough for someone to stand on it and probably do some preaching. This is a chapel after all. What is noteworthy here is that the door of the terrace is very nice. The design is typical of gothic churches and you might think that the door is something that might be at the ground floor. I think the door here is much better than the one at the lower level. Additionally, the walls around the doors are adorned with sculptures of bible scenes. I won’t try to identify them as I won’t be too familiar with them. I thought it was a very nice touch to have this wall since it proves that it is not only just the inside of the chapel that the designers paid attention too. I won’t be surprised if people would miss this place but it is worth the few minutes to stay and appreciate it.
