There was a bit of excitement as people jostled for position outside the Saint-Pierre de Montmartre for a view of the magnificent sunset over Paris. I admit I also got into the feel of things and also took photos of the sunset. With that out of the way, I thought that I was done with the place. I thought that I should just go behind the Saint-Pierre de Montmartre and take photos of it while I make my way down. It all became clear to me once I turned the corner. Saint-Pierre de Montmartre wasn’t the church that I was looking for. There are actually two churches here right next to each other.
I don’t get the rationale of building two churches right next to each other other than one being a different denomination from the other. However, there it was – Sacre Coeur Basilica or the Sacred Heart Basilica. I have seen this church in photos a lot. I have always wanted to visit it but wasn’t able to for one reason or another. I was glad to have finally found it. The Sacre Coeur Basilica is a jewel that sits above the city of Paris. The white church can be seen for miles and this is especially true at night which it coming up soon. For now, I would like to go inside while they still let visitors in.
