I was surprised how quickly I was done with the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Chartres. It didn’t help that I missed the only rooftop tour for the day, I thought that would have been a very different experience to an otherwise ordinary visit to yet another extraordinary cathedral. By the time I was done, I was already noon time. I thought that I should just have lunch first before heading back to Paris. Surely there would be a few nice places to eat here. It was then that I realized how cold it was. I was indoors the whole time and I didn’t feel the cold wind that was blowing that day. Now that I have to walk around the town of Chartres I just started to realize how cold it was.
I was walking along one of the streets across the Chartres Cathedral hoping that I would be able to find some place to eat. Some of the places I saw along the way weren’t open or the just didn’t seem that interesting. I came upon a small square. It wasn’t busy at all but there were several restaurants surrounding it. One of them was La Table Du Marché. There seemed to be a lot of locals eating there so I thought this might be a good choice.
The interiors of the restaurant seems like it is from a hotel and I thought it was very attractive. The constant flow of customers gave me some confidence that I picked the right place. I ordered something which had seafood in it, based on my limited French vocabulary, but I can’t really identify the name of the dish. But it didn’t turn out to be anything special. Unfortunately, the meal itself would turned out to be mediocre. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t think it was anything special. I wasn’t in a hurry so I just finished my beer while just watching people. At least the service was good. The staff was friendly and they were always wanting to ask how I was doing. It is a pity that the food wasn’t that great.
