It seems like in this trip, it was another day, another giant cathedral to visit. I knew that France has a lot of these but I think I am only starting to realize just how plentiful they are here. Chartres, just outside Paris, is known for its Cathedral of Notre Dame de Chartres. It seems that most of the cathedrals I have visited so far have been dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. They only differ in the name of the place. Maybe cathedrals are supposed to be dedicated to her. Anyway, I was inside the cathedral admiring the interiors of the church. It is hard to believe that this church dates way back to the twelfth century.
The cathedral, of course, is very well maintained. The stained glass windows of the cathedral are wonderful to look at. It is a shame that the sun isn’t out else it would be especially beautiful. One of the main features of any cathedral would be the altar area. I noticed that one half of that area seems to be under construction. This sort of ruins the photo but they do need to make fixes every now and then. You can’t exactly walk up to the altar area but if you go around it, there is a door which lets you very close to it.
