I think I have seen most of the important places in Chateau de Fontainebleau. It is a huge place almost rivaling the size of the Palace of Versailles. It seems like the French monarchs like the same things so the palace at Fontainebleau is very similar to Versailles. There are massive gardens here which would be great for a stroll but I decided to go to the lake which is right beside the palace. This is no lake however. This is the carp pond. This pond is huge enough for me to consider it a lake. Back then visitors would ride boats on the lake and feed the resident carp.
I didn’t see any carp here but they are said to be plentiful here. They were kept as pets and also for food. I thought to go around the lake before I leave but when I got halfway around the pond, there was security on a bicycle telling me that the place is already closed and I needed to turn back. I was intending to head back but I was hoping I would complete the circuit before doing so. Anyway, from the other side of the pond, you can see some of the buildings of the palace. I think there is boating here maybe in non-pandemic times but not now. I quickly got out of the palace grounds and head back to Paris for dinner.
