The Chateau de Fontainebleau is a large palace built in its namesake town. Contrary to my initial assumption, Emperor Napoleon did not commission this palace. In fact, it was built by previous kings of France, in stages by different rulers. What resulted is a large square which is bounded on three sides by the chateau. While apparently, Napoleon himself didn’t come here that frequently, there seem to be a lot of stuff here that are related to him. I know that the entire chateau is now a museum but there is a small section of the palace which displays individual artifacts, like a museum.
A lot of these items were apparently used by the emperor and of course they look fancy. It would be impossible for me to say what those items were as the captions were all in French. There were items as diverse as swords, to clocks, to tea cup sets. Each of these items were expertly crafted and let’s say fit for a king or an emperor in this case. These days owning such a thing would have already raised eyebrows because this is not the kind of thing that is mass produced but back then only royalty would have been able to own them.
