I was very happy with my visit to La Petite Venise. I accidentally found it as I was randomly walking about in the city of Colmar. Somehow the streets naturally led to the picturesque district. By now, there are signficantly more people. I thought that I have seen all that there is to see here in Colmar and decided that I was done and maybe it was time to go back to Strasbourg. But before that there was lunch. It seems that there is a popular place right here in La Petite Venise and I was hoping to get a table there. It was just at one of the corners here and it seems the other people also know about it. I was told that the place is already full and I can see that. It was a shame but I think there should be more to choose from here.
I remembered that there were some restaurants along the way and started retracing my steps. Since there were a lot more people now, more people were looking for seats in restaurants. I ended up at a place called Schwendi Bier und Wiestub. The name is very German as a lot of place names here tend to sound German. This looked like a pub and there were also a lot of people already there. I was given a seat at the bar. Not ideal, but I will take it. I ordered baeckaoffe which is an Alsace specialty. Much like their other dishes, it is basically a dish with meat, normally pork, and potatoes. It is basically stew but it came with less broth. The dish itself was nothing extraordinary. After all, the ingredients are very simple as well as the cooking method. I washed it all down with some beer.
