I seemed to have accidentally found the number one tourist attraction of Colmar – La Petite Venise or Little Venice. It is not surprising that they called it as such but primarily it is because of the canal that flows through the site. The houses here are definitely not Venetian though. They are the type which was common in this region during the medieval times. It is a wonder that most of this was preserved all this time. Earlier along the canal, only one side of the canal had the timber framed houses. While it was nice, nothing beats having timber framed houses on both sides of the canal.
This is exactly the scene that you see here. There is a road which crossed the canal and it forms a bridge which happens to make the perfect viewpoint for this spot. Unsurprisingly, there were significantly more people here and they were all taking photos of the wonderful view. The canal is somewhat narrower here which makes the houses appear much closer thus forming a better shot. To the left of the view, there appears to be an extension of an existing structure where you can probably have lunch or dinner by the canal. While I agree that is would be a very nice experience, it seems that it somewhat intrudes a bit too much into the canal.
