The city center of the Colmar is very attractive. I don’t know if was where the tourist spot is but I was already liking what I’m seeing. There are a lot of half timbered buildings here in the city center, whether new or old it all fits nicely together. Since it is December, there is also the traditional Christmas market here. Normally large squares are turned into markets and it is the same here in Colmar. This Christmas market happens to be where an old Dominican Church stands. You can be forgiven if you couldn’t see the church because of the Christmas market. However, I did see the church and thought that it is probably something important.
This is Saint MArtin’s Church. It is a Gothic church that has had a presence in Colmar since the fourteenth century. It is difficult to take a photo of the church because of the market around it but at least the facade of the church is still clear. It won’t be surprising to miss the entrance entirely because of the market. The church itself is rather large but it doesn’t have the gargantuan proportions of the cathedrals I have seen in this trip recently. Much as I would like to explore the rest of Colmar, I think I have time to go in and have a look.
