The old city center of the city of Nancy is full of historical buildings. Not too far away is the centerpiece Place Stanislas. The street here runs parallel to the Place de la Carrière and is significantly livelier compared to the former. This seems like it is some sort of main street of the old city. There are a few historical structures here but the most significant one is the Palace of the Dukes of Lorraine. When King Stanislaus of Poland was exiled, he ran back to his son-in-law who was king of France Louis XV who offered him a position in the city of Nancy.
The palace itself was older than Stanislaus contrary to my expectations. There have been dukes of the region of Lorraine even before he arrived. The dukes of Lorraine would live in this palace. It isn’t a massive palace like the ones for kings but it is still big enough for you and me. I wanted to get in this palace but some reason it wasn’t open. I don’t really know why everything seems to be closed but this is terribly disappointing not to be able to enter the palace. There is a side road where I can have a peek as to how it looks like. There is a tall spire looking thing which might be part of a church or chapel that was once here. I can only guess since I can only look from the outside the gate. As with most palaces, this one has also been converted into a museum.
