It is amazing to see how many churches Strasbourg has. I have been to the tallest cathedral in Strasbourg and I was very impressed with it. It seems that whichever way you go, you would end up seeing another impressive church. During the reformation, several Protestant churches were built. The Lutheran church was quite popular in this area so several churches were also built in Strasbourg. Not a lot of these churches approached the scale that the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg achieved but some of them were quite significant in their own right. One of these churches is the Church of Saint Thomas.
I thought about taking photos of Petite France at night so I started walking there. Along the way, I passed by a large church which turned out to be the Church of Saint Thomas. At one point in time, Strasbourg Cathedral was a Lutheran church but it turned Catholic once the France gained control of Strasbourg. Because of this, the Church of Saint Thomas became something like the Protestant cathedral in Strasbourg, which itself used to be a Catholic church before. Confused yet? The church has a fortress like appearance in contrast to Strasbourg Cathedral. I was hoping to go in the church to take photos but the doors weren’t open. So I could only take photos from the outside. There is a Christmas market right beside it, perhaps I can enjoy a few snacks here when I get the chance.
