Without even trying, I found myself at the Avenue de Champagne – Épernay’s most well known landmark. I found myself at Épernay’s major roundabout and discovered that there was a parade of vintage car along one of it’s streets. The street happened to be the Avenue de Champagne. Of course, they would be parading here since it is their most important street. No, there is no champagne flowing on this avenue but there might as well be. This is probably what makes Épernay, the Capital of Champagne.
Imagine that we already know that all of the champagne in the world is already made in this region. Naturally, the champagne companies would have their offices and facilities close to where the grapes are. What resulted was the champagne companies built them, mostly, all on this avenue. If you are a fan of champagne, you would be familiar with a lot of the names that could be found along this avenue. If you are, like me, ignorant of these kinds of things, it is still worth a stroll along this elegant street just to see the impact of champagne on this town. I would be doing that but first I would need to make a reservation for a wine tasting.
