I had a great night’s sleep at the Ibis Budget Reims Parc des Expositions. I wasn’t sure if the bed was that comfy or I was just so tired from yesterday’s travels. This time, I don’t have to be carrying my main backpack around as I go touring since I have the hotel to leave it in. I will be going out of town this morning and I needed to head back to the train station for tickets. For some reason, I never thought to check the schedules of the trains online but later found out that the train won’t be leaving anytime soon. This meant I have time to spare.
I remember that there was a park in front of the Gare de Reims and I thought it would be nice to have a walk around here while I was waiting for my train. Back then, Reims was protected by several triumphal gates. Most of the gates are no longer there. However, there is still one that is well preserved – Porte de Mars or the Gate of Mars. Along the way, I noticed that there is some Christmas market set up here. It is not as big or fancy as the ones at the cathedral but this one seems nice just the same. At the very end, there are rides for kids. I think this is a place which families come to frequently. I just thought that Reims sounds like a great place to stay in, since it is not too far away from Paris but it still has a bit of that small town feeling.
