The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Reims certainly makes an impression. The high gothic style church is a UNESCO World Heritage site where kings would be crowned. This makes it an integral part of French history. Like most gothic churches, the cathedral ha sa very high ceiling and it seems that they made changes so there is more like coming in from the top. It is difficult to see the windows at the top but I would like to imagine that there are stained glass windows. It might be more accurate to say they were stained glass windows because back in the first world war, the invading Germans took aim at the cathedral and shelled it constantly. As a result, a lot of these beautiful stained glass windows were lost forever.
After the war, the cathedral was reconstructed and it is impressive to see how much has been restored here. Sure not all of the parts here were original. Some of the statues are mere copies of the original to keep them safe. Some of the parts of the church were also reinforced with better construction technology. The end result is just magnificent. There are still some stained glass windows here but I suspect they were all reconstructions. After all, one of first things that would break would be the windows.
