I was hoping to visit the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Reims when I followed a separate path away from the cathedral. I thought it was the entrance for the cathedral since people were also going in there but it turned out to be the entrance to the Palace of Tau. The Palace of Tau is where the archbishop of Reims resides and like the name implies, it is also rather grand in stature. The Palace of Tau is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Reims which is good so I don’t have to go find it somewhere else. The name Palace of Tau might come off as strange but it is derived from the shape of the building which looks like the Greek letter Tau. I guess someone noticed that and started calling it the Palace of Tau and the name stuck.
The Palace of Tau is also tied to the history of France as this is where the kings would stay before they get crowned as king in the nearby cathedral. Because of the influence of Saint Remi, future kings would be coming here for their coronation so it was also built to accommodate these people. These days the Palace of Tau now serves as a museum. You would need intimate knowledge of the history of France to be able to appreciate the artifacts on display. As for me, I was just a tourist and I didn’t know much about the history of France, I can only look on and appreciate the items on display. It doesn’t help that there are no English captions here so it was doubly hard for me to understand them.
