There is a nice hiking trail that starts from Luke’s Bridge in Sligo. I wasn’t exactly prepared to go hiking but I still walked far enough to know what is out there. Most of the path is pretty flat. There is a dirt path from the car park, which then turns into one overgrown with plants. It was challenging to figure out where the actual trail is without someone walking ahead of you. I can see the most of the people we heading to the side of the mountain. I wasn’t planning on doing that. I was hoping to find a trail which goes all the way to foot of the mountain where there seems to be some water flowing down.
I am not sure if that can be called a waterfall since it is quite small. But you can clearly see the water go from the top of the mountain down to the foot where it then becomes the stream which I passed by. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t find the trail there and I had to turn back. The trail was getting very boggy and my shoes aren’t prepared for such terrain. Some people tried following me but realized that I wasn’t going the same way as them. They were making a beeline for the foot of the Benbulben mountain and I can see a stream of people making their way up. The trail slowly ascends the side of the mountain up to where the water seems to come out. The top of the mountain appears to be flat and I can see people walking there as well. I understand that this can take three to five hours. If I had proper shoes, I would probably try this some day. But for now, I am happy with the knowledge of how to go up Benbulben.
