Triton Lake is a small lake in the ground of the Powerscourt Estate. I don’t know if the lake is artificial but it can’t be coincidence that the best shot for the Powerscourt Estate can be taken from the other end of Triton Lake. I don’t think they built the house after aligning it with the lake either. Anyway, Triton Lake is one of the main features of Powerscourt Estate and it is one of the most beautiful areas too. It is named such because of a statue of Triton. Actually, it was difficult to tell from the shore. Triton is depicted as having a shell and blowing it to control the seas. In this case, mighty Triton is in control of the fountain in the middle of the lake.
The fountain at the center of the lake isn’t that high but it is good enough to obscure the Powerscourt House when viewed from one end of the lake. I think it would have been impressive to see a larger fountain here considering how large the lake is in comparison. The lake surface is dominated by water lilies, so it would sometimes appear to be quite messy. I would have expected that a place like the Powerscourt Estate pay as much attention to the lake, just as much as they pay attention to the garden.
