Rugged Shore of Altar

Rugged Shore at Altar

I was quite surprised to see a very accessible Neolithic site here in Altar. I only saw it because of the sign marking the area. It was a wedge tomb, which is a those box type of tombs that can be found in Ireland. It is considered the most recent form of megaliths in Ireland. I find them the most interesting since it would take quite a bit of skill to construct a structure like that. Probably even more skill to make sure they stay standing after thousands of years. The choice of location is also interesting since the landscape here is quite rugged.

Look out from where Altar is, you can see the sea. You can also see that it is very rocky and rugged here. The fog is still persisting adding to the feeling of isolation that this place can give. I understand why there was someone operating a drone here. It was most likely for photographs of the surrounding area. I myself would love to own a drone just to give a different literal perspective of the places I go to. It feels like I was at the edge of the world but there is still more peninsula to cover.
