I has been a long but fruitful day of exploring West Cork. I traveled from the Kinsale area all the way to the village of Baltimore where I decided to call it a day. However, there still wsan’t where I would be spending the night at. I would be spending the night at the Kerry town of Kenmare. I chose Kenmare because it seems to be a good base for me to explore the area. It seems to be just across the border with Cork, so there should not be any problem getting there. Looking at the map, it is only a short distance between the Cork village of Bantry and Kenmare. So Kenmare it is.
Little did I know that the small distance between Bantry and Kenmare was actually separated by a mountain range. The Caha Mountain range is a formidable mountain range that you need to traverse to get to county Kerry. I was then surprised to find out that I needed to climb mountains to get there. While the mountain road was actually very good, it was the weather that wasn’t. There were clouds up in the mountains and it was difficult to see the road. Fortunately, there weren’t a lot of vehicles that time so I could take my time. I was relieved that it wasn’t completely dark yet at least, it would help me see a little of the road. Every little thing helps I guess.
The Caha Pass, as it is called, passes through at least three tunnels, including one long one. I breathed a sigh of relief when I knew that I was finally going down the mountain. This won’t be my first time in the village of Kenmare but this would be the first time I would be staying. I chose the Druid Cottage bed and breakfast. They have a charming little house which just exudes a lot of old world charm. My room was well made though the walls can be quite thin as you can easily hear noise from the outside. It didn’t really keep me awake since I slept soundly that night.
