Toe Head

I took a small detour on my trip around the West Cork coastal route. This is essentially the same as the Cork section of the Wild Atlantic Way. I thought that I would visit a small beach here in the area and it turned out to be Sandycove, which is a tiny cove with beach and all. It seems that now place is safe from tourists these days since even the tiny Sandycove also has visitors. I continued on my way along the coastal route. My original destination is Toe Head Bay, which is also a discovery point of the Wild Atlantic Way. You can tell that you have arrived because the road widens significantly here. There is a marker as well, so you know that you have arrived.

Essentially, what you can see here is Toe Head Bay. The view point is high enough to see most of the area. However, my impressions of the area is how underwhelming the place is. Sure there is a view here but there are no cliffs to see, just the bay. It is not even that high up here that I couldn’t understand why it was listed as a discovery point. Apparently, there is a signal tower here somewhere but I didn’t see it. These signal towers date back to the time of Napoleon where these towers would aid in warning the military of a French invasion. There are a total of eighty one of these so you can take your pick. I didn’t really linger too much here since it was really that uninteresting to me. There were a few people walking but I think it is more locals doing their daily walk.
