I was rather disappointed to see how sleepy the village center of Timoleague actually is. Maybe because it was a weekend. But it is most probably because of the ongoing pandemic that a lot of establishments are not allowed to open. I can see how this can have a tremendous impact on business especially in a very small village such as Timoleague. Sure the tourist sights are open but they won’t really earn money from that. I was walking through the village center and I was about to make the turn back to the Timoleague Abbey, when I saw a long flight of stairs to the right.
I wasn’t expecting this. The stairs are actually very well maintained and it is very attractive. What makes it even more attractive is the beautiful church at the top of the stairs. It seems to be another major landmark here and I was eager to visit it. The design of the church seems to be a bit Romanesque so I assumed that it would be something quite old. The church itself sits on top of a hill which overlooks Timoleague and it seemed to have picked a very good spot. The theme of the stairs seems to be that of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I look forward to visiting this church.
