The Old HEad of Kinsale is one of the signature points of the Wild Atlantic Way, which is why I made to sure to come here as soon as I checked in with the bend and breakfast. As I would later find out, there is a significant part of the Old Head of Kinsale which is inaccessible to the public because it is considered private property. I, along with other visitors were disappointed that this is as far as we could go. Just outside the gate visitors can have a look at the magnificent cliff-side scenery here. It was lucky that the sun was out, thereby illuminating the area. However, that is just one side of the old head.
One needs to cross the road an follow a trail to get to the viewpoint for the other side of the old head. This spot doesn’t seem to be as frequented as the other one, so I think it would have been okay had you missed this. What can be seen here is a different side to the old head. The cliffs aren’t as spectacular here though you will still be just as high above the water compared to the other side. You can see other parts of the head here here but because the sun is one the other side of the headland, it isn’t as illuminated as the other side. For completionists, I think it is still worth a look here.
