Kinsale has a nice walkable town center which is still wonderfully preserved. The town’s major landmark, the Saint Multose Church of Ireland was an impressive display of preservation considering that this church was been here for 800 years. It is a pleasure to be walking around the town center as it is very well kept. It also helps that the houses here are brightly colored. Not all heritage structures here are almost a thousand of years old. I thought that it was strange that the oldest church here in Kinsale is a Church of Ireland. I would have expected that it would be a Catholic Church that would be the oldest structure here.
There actually is a Catholic Church here but it is nowhere as old as the Saint Multose Church of Ireland. The Saint John the Baptist Church is a Catholic church that was built in 1832. The church doesn’t look as ancient as Saint Multose’s Church. In fact, it appears to be quite modern as far as Irish churches go. It was difficult to take photos of the church since it is build along a narrow street. This seems to be an odd location for a Catholic church where it usually be built where there is lots of space. This doesn’t seem to be the case for Saint John the Baptist Church. At the time of my visit, I wasn’t able to go in because of a wedding. To be honest, I thought it was shocking to see so many people gather there since the pandemic was still raging. I hope these events don’t become super spreader events and infect a lot of people.
