Strandhill appears to be one of the more popular places here in county Sligo. It is another seaside resort village which is known for it’s surf. Already I can see why. At the end of the road is the beach itself and you can see the Atlantic and all it’s power. There are paths here to walk along the shore. I chose to go left as the one on the right was being renovated. The left path brings visitors to the beach area which seems to be okay. It wasn’t as nice as the others I have seen before. What’s more, the waves here might be slightly stronger than the ones I have seen elsewhere, probably explains why surfers like this area.
There is a sandy hill which is right next to the beach and I remember climbing this before, however, the old path is no more, probably worn away because of numerous climbers. I see that there is a sign pointing to the new path but I didn’t consider climbing it this time. I was only here to take photos. Behind Strandhill is mountain which dominates the landscape. That is Knocknarea mountain. The shape of the mountain is very unique and it makes me think that it is one massive megalithic tomb. It seems that it is possible to climb this strangely shaped mountain. I should consider doing that one of these days.
