Magheraroarty is a village along the Wild Atlantic Way. It is probably best known as one of the jumping off points for the nearby Tory Island. I won’t be hopping on a boat anytime soon as travel is currently restricted because of the pandemic. The port office was closed when I visited so that probably means that there is no tourist travel to the island. I can imagine how only island residents can go there at the moment. Even if I can’t go to Tory Island, there are still some places of interest here. In particular, the beach seems to be quite attractive. There are huge sand deposits here where visitors can choose which beach they want to stay at. It seems to be such a luxury to have something like this for a village so small.
The port itself itself is quite simple. There is a pier which sticks out into the say and boats can then dock. I can see this is also a place for fishing boats. There is a sign here which lays out the costs for landing various kinds of seafood, I didn’t know there was such a thing. I would have imagined that it would have just been a flat fee to charge the boat to dock here. Curiously, there aren’t a lot of restaurants here. I would imagine that it would be a perfect place to set one up because the port would be very accessible.
