I thought I was running out to places to see, so I thought to revisit some places perhaps there would be some surprises. I chose to revisit the Inishowen 100 which is a 100 mile long tourist route in county Donegal which brings you all around the Inishowen peninsula. I usually start at the town of Buncrana and go clockwise along the route. I normally pass through the town since I didn’t think there was anything interesting there. I know that there is a beach there and I have been there before, but apart from that I don’t know much about it. On the way out of the town, I saw a sign pointing to Ned’s Point Fort, this tells me to go and check it out.
Ned’s Point Fort as you might expect, is a fort built along the shore. Like a lot of forts built in the area, it is meant to defend against invaders from the sea. In this case, this was to defend against the French during the Napoleonic Wars. I thought it would be a strange place to attack especially if the attack would be coming from France, but obviously, I’m not a military strategist. The fort itself isn’t that noteworthy. In fact, there is little to be seen here apart from the walls. There is a walk that can be done here. I only took photos of the fort and I didn’t do the walk.
