I was really enjoying this trip around the southern coast of Donegal. I know that I haven’t visited a lot of places here but I was surprised to know that something this major got passed me. Muckross Head is another point at along the Wild Atlantic Way. It is not as well known as the other points along the touring route but it would be a shame to miss it if you were already in the area. This place is just off the main road going to Slieve League. There are also signs pointing to Muckross Head along the way. There is a sign to a coastal road which brings you to the backroads but rest assured, the views are great.
Like a lot of places like this, Muckross Head is like a small peninsula which sticks out to the sea. This exposes the land to the forces of the Atlantic Ocean and eventually nature carves out amazing seascapes out of these rocks. From the view point for Muckross Head, visitors can continue following the road and eventually a sign for the beach and the headland itself. I was lucky at the time and the weather was good, so it was nice to see the surrounding area here. There a small bay here, Muckross Bay but I wanted to continue on to the very end of the road. This parts gets little dodgy because it is quite narrow so just take you time going there.
