In this time of travel restrictions I take every chance I get to go around. This time around, there are restrictions on traveling outside the county. This means that I will be stuck in Donegal. Fortunately, that is not such a bad thing. Donegal has a lot of wild and pristine areas which are just waiting for visitors. This time of lockdown, there are even less people how make it all the way here. However, this means that we would have the place all to ourselves. This time, I would be visiting Western Donegal, which is the Atlantic coast. I have heard about how nice this area could be so I needed to find out.
My first stop was borne out of Google Maps. I was looking at the maps trying to decide where to go and this non-Irish sounding name for a waterfall popped out. I have never visited this one before so I decided to pay it a visit. Assarance Waterfalls is a nice little waterfall in the village of Maghera. The falls is actually right beside the road and there is ample parking space in front of it. The waterfall looks good even if it isn’t that tall. I noticed that the rocks here are dark giving the waterfall a different kind of feel. I wasn’t the only one there at the time but this place seems to be some sort of hidden gem that not a lot of people know about. On my way out, all of the people have already left and I had the entire place to myself.
