Lookout Post Looking Over Dunree Bay
I was pleasantly surprised that there was another part of Fort Dunree that I didn’t know of. I don’t know if the trail has always been open and that I never noticed it but it seems to be open now and I was very excited to give ia a try. I took the mountain path which brings visitors to the top of the mountain which happens to host another fort called the Top Fort. While the Top Fort is still here for historical reasons, it also provides great views of the surrounding area. It seems that no matter where you choose to set up a fort you end up picking a place which is gorgeous. This seems to have happened to Fort Dunree, which also happens to be a place of great natural beauty.

I only knew this from walking the mountain trail at Dunree which brings around the mountain which sits behind the actual fort. Being a mountain, it also affords great views of the area. What I didn’t know was that there was a beautiful secluded beach at the foot of the mountain. I believe the name of the place is Dunree Bay. I caught a glimpse of this beach as I was making my way to Fort Dunree but thought nothing about it until I saw it from above. There were only handful of people here and from my recollection, there weren’t a lot of vehicles parked nearby too. I would have to remind myself to give this beach a visit since it seems to be a hidden gem that not a lot of people know about.
