Ammunition Depot at a Gun Installation at Fort Dunree
When I thought about Fort Dunree, all I could think of is that fortress that is built near the water. However, turns out that there is more to Fort Dunree than that. There are a few walks here to let visitors appreciate the area. Despite it’s role as a military outport, Dunree also has incredible natural beauty. These walks help visitors appreciate it more. I took the mountain trail which will bring you around the mountain but to my surprise, it also brings me to what is call the Top Fort. As the name implies, the Top Fort is a fort built on top of the mountain. It makes sense to build one up there since it has an excellent view of the surrounding area. If you want to be protecting something, you need to make sure you can see the enemy coming.
A Lookout Post at the Top Fort of Fort Dunree
The top for isn’t as forbidding as Fort Dunree itself. It seems to be just a wall built around the top of the mountain punctuated by several look out posts. There are not only lookout posts here but also gun installations, not that different from Fort Dunree below. I suppose that the higher the guns are the further the range they will have. I don’t know anything about these things but anyone can come and touch them. There is a protective wall behind the gun presumably for soldiers to hide behind when the gun gets fired. Below the gun installation, there are compartments where the ammunition is stored. I think it takes more then one person to operate this thing. Presumably, the gun and be rotated to point to the target and it can be pointed up or down.
