The weather was not cooperating when I was in Killarney. There would be bursts of heavy rain and then some sunshine and the cycle repeats. It was difficult to enjoy a trip like this but you have to just make do with what you get. Perhaps, it would be better for me to just spend some time in town. My hotel was not too far from main street so I could just walk there for dinner. I was on the lookout for a nice place to have dinner and I eventually chose Quinlan’s Fish Shop. Although it says fish shop, it is a full blown restaurant with a more casual feel.
The first thing which caught my eye was the plate of fried squid. I don’t know about you, but I love calamari. I don’t think I have ever had only fried squid for a meal so I thought I should give it a try. It turned out to be an excellent choice. As my plate of squid was bought out, I heard the next tables jealously say “no way” as I gleefully dug into my dinner. I don’t know if they were saying that because they couldn’t believe one person would eat all of that or that they should have ordered the same thing. No matter, it is all mine. The squid was perfectly fried, not a mean feat since squid tend to get tough when overcooked. It is also lightly battered giving you a satisfying crunch to the chewy squid. My squid came with a lot of chips and some salad to keep it healthy. I was very happy with my choice for dinner and I would loved to have come back here had I had more days here. I wholeheartedly recommend this place.
