After a not too long wait outside the Jardin Marjorelle, I managed to get in. I was relieved since I was worried that I might take too long waiting in the line. After all, why would everybody be coming to this place. As the name implies it is a garden. More accurately – a botanical garden. This garden was first set up by Jacques Majorelle. It was a labor of love as it was worked on for over forty years starting in 1923. You can think of it as a vacation home. It is was probably common for the French to be here and probably not surprising that French would own property here. The garden was purchased later by the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre BergĂ©.
Initially, as I was walking through the gardens, I didn’t think that it was anything special. It is a garden by some rich person. However, as you go around you begin to notice things. In particular, the plants here in the garden seem to be quite different from the ones I’m used to seeing. In particular, there seem to be an awful lot of succulents here. You can immediately tell since because of the parts which are very thick and are usually used to store water. These are common in desert environments which Marrakesh is not too far away from. Once I saw these place, my interest was piqued. This doesn’t seem to be any ordinary garden after all.
