I had the entire afteroon here in Marrakesh. It would be my last afternoon here as I would be flying out the next day. I don’t intend to go on a race to see everything here in Marrakesh but I rather take it slow, like I was actually on vacation. Looking at the map, the Jardin Majorelle seems to be one of the well known places which is popular. I was thinking that it is just a garden, what could be so nice about it. What’s worse is that the garden is quite a distance away from the medina. I didn’t know how to get there by public transportation and I didn’t want to hassle myself by taking a cab. With the power of satellite navigation I made my way to the garden.
The garden was outside the wall of the medina of Marrakesh but keep in mind that the medina is huge and it took a while to get out of it. I guess this it the time I would get to see the real Marrakesh, away from the touristed up places. Indeed along the way you can see disorderly places especially the residential areas. I didn’t feel unsafe walking here but don’t ask me if I would pass through this place at night. This is a very residential area and I don’t want to be intruding. Outside the medina, the city was surprisingly orderly. There were apartment buildings along the way and it seemed to be a pleasant place to live in. The buildings were all sand colored for some reason. My guess is that there might be sandstorms which can discolor buildings so might well paint your buildings sand so people can’t tell.
