Moroccan Architecture at Bahia Palace

The Bahia Palace is a nice showcase of Moroccan architecture. The palace was built for the grand vizier and he actually used it for personal and even business uses. Unsurprisingly, the place was spruced up to make sure people going there would be impressed. Indeed, there would be rooms which would be lavishly decorated. The roofs in particular were commonly very elaborately decorated with beautifully done wood paintings. You can see a lot of these all over the place. You probably just need to have to be a little more observant. It reminds me of how European palaces would have roofs which are lavishly decorated. I would not be surprised if they got this idea from the French.

It isn’t just the roof that is decorated lavishly. The doors and windows are also excellent examples of Moroccan art. You can see how parts of the palace would be designed slightly differently. In particular, I noticed that some of the windows were more Islamic in style. By that I mean it uses a lot of repeating geometric shapes to form patterns. You see this a lot in Islamic art and it has made its way here as well. Towards the end of the tour of the palace, there were significantly more people here and it was difficult to get photos. In a lot of cases, it was impossible to not have people in the photo but I just needed to take what is given.
