The Bahia Palace is a palace for the use of the grand vizier Ahmed Ben Moussa. He set up a lavish palace in the middle of the medina of Morocco, and it makes you feel like you are in a totally different place. You would not feel that you are actually inside a medina. That being said, there are a lot of people visiting this place so it is difficult to get that feeling of isolation here. Perhaps if you go there early enough, you won’t have to share this place with a thousand other people. The palace grounds is large so there can only be so many people at one place. The courtyard was one of the nice places here with all the elegant Islamic and Moroccan architecture on display.
The courtyard is an introduction to the rest of the palace. What is next is a hall which is used for business purposes. There is no table here but what is important here is above. The roof is a display of Moroccan craftsmanship. It is a wooden roof but it is carved and designed only by expert craftsmen. It is a pity you can’t see the roof up close but I’m sure that anyone who is entering this place would be similarly impressed. The height of the roof also gives the impression of vastness that it would make you feel small. Perhaps that is the intention as well.
