Lunch at Ait Ben-Haddou

We managed to visit a real Berber house in Ait Ben-Haddou there aren’t a lot of people who live here anymore but our tour guide managed to bring us there. It was a bit of an eye opener for me to see how spartan their lives here are. It makes me feel so privileged that I afford all these things that I have now and visit other lands. Our tour guide was in a hurry to gather us, it seem that we would going somewhere else. It turns out that we were supposed to gather for lunch. I have seen this type of tactic before and it happens a lot in group tours. They would herd you to a restaurant of their and the most probably get a cut from the sales. I wanted to go the front of the fort where I can see it in its entirety and I was promised that after lunch.

I quickly had my lunch of kefta tagine which wasn’t that special. I had this before elsewhere and I guess it wasn’t that different. I was grouped with various people in the table and they seemed to be from all over the place – Italy, Chile and various other places. I honestly wasn’t in any mood to eat since I really wanted to go take photos. I felt that the sky was turning cloudy and I wanted to get blue skies before it turns overcast. The food wasn’t that great and it is not even cheap considering that we are in the middle of nowhere. I devoured my meal and quickly head outside. I told the driver that I would be walking down the road for a bit to hopefully take photos. Hopefully that would remind the driver that I wasn’t there.
