It wasn’t the first time I walked the Avenue Mohammed V, which is dubbed Morocco’s most beautiful street. I was here the first time I arrived in Rabat as I was making my way to the train station. Back then, I already noticed how nice this street was but I was in a hurry to catch a train that I didn’t take any photos. This time, I’m better prepared. It was already late afternoon as I was strolling along the Avenue Mohammed V. It was like a park in the middle of the road. It has trees and seats, although I didn’t feel that the air was polluted, the number of cars which pass through this avenue pretty much assures it is.
What is nice about Rabat is that they managed to keep a lot of the heritage structures intact. This is true of Avenue Mohammed V. There are several of these structures which look like they have been there for a century. The Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of Morocco, is particularly impressive with various Islamic designs adorning its facade which would not out of place in a madrasa. Not too far away from the bank is the Rabat Post Office with its massive clock. These are just a few of the structures along the Avenue Mohammed V, if you look closer, you can find a few other gems.
