I managed to make it to the Hassan Tower complex. Turns out the Hassan Tower is a tower for a mosque and not the skyscraper that I thought it was. This is supposed to be a mosque complex but it doesn’t look anything like a mosque apart from the tower. The only mosque like structure here is a mausoleum. From my past experiences of mausoleums here in Morocco, non-Muslims are not allowed, I was hoping it would be different here. The mausoleum is on an elevated platform helping it look over the mausoleum complex. There is a gate right in front of it and there don’t seem to be any guards here.
It seems that non-muslims are not prohibited from approaching the mausoleum. This is good news, that way, I can get a closer look at the wonderful Islamic architecture they have here. What immediately caught my eye is this metal thing which is mounted on both sides of the staircase going to the mausoleum. I wasn’t sure what it was but it looked very beautiful. This is apparently a brass lantern. It wasn’t lit up so I couldn’t tell what it was. If it wasn’t lit, I think it would be difficult for non-muslims to tell what this was. Like a lot of Islamic art, this lantern was very well designed. I probably would be nice to see it in use.
