My route here in Morocco would be taking me from Tangier to Fès down to the city of Marrakesh. I was hoping to go to the furthest point then slowly make my way back to Marrakesh, that way I won’t be trying to rush back when I was at the furthest point in my journey. It has worked so far apart from a few hiccups at the start of the trip. I am now in the royal city of Meknès. Meknès doesn’t have as much tourist traffic as does nearby Fès but I decided to stay here a couple of nights anyway. The main reason for me staying here is that it has easier access to ruins of Volubilis.
Volubilis is an ancient Roman city outside Meknès. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site which is why I wanted to visit it. Besides, I think I have seen enough mosques in the past few days that Roman ruins doesn’t sound too bad. I was hoping to be able to take public transport to get to Volubilis but there is no such thing. Visitors would first need to go to Moulay Idriss before proceeding to Volubilis. Getting to Volubilis is very easy. Bus number 15 passes by the main highway outside the medina. Fortunately, the stop was just a short walk away from Riad Bab Berdaine. The fare is ridiculously cheap at seven dirhams. The bus driver seems comfortable enough with tourists that he knows where people go to most of the time.
