I was tired from going around the medina of Fès. I didn’t think the old quarter what that huge but I kept getting lost so I would end up going round and round, walking past the same place over and over. I got stuck with a wannabe tour guide who is probably expecting money from me despite what he says. He did bring me to an aritsan’s workshop what I got to see weaving up close. The guy brought me aorund to see the Jewish quarter which was basically just a single building with a Star of David on it. When I insisted that I wanted to leave because I was tired he then showed his true colors. If I liked his service then he would appreciate anything I would give him. This isn’t true since he complained about the small amount I gave him. I gave him some more and I left immediately. It is incidents like these that ruins the whole experience of Fès.
Immediately after leaving him, I got lost. But I managed to find my way back to the dar where I was staying. It would be night time when I would go out once again. This time for dinner. I am always on the lookout for something different to try. I know that menus in Morocco are basically couscous and tagine and it can be challenging to find something else. I found this place not too far away from the main strip. Cafe Clock is so named because it is near a famous water clock which I didn’t know about. It was too late to go see it now since it was already dark. I made my way to the top of the cafe which has a roof deck. What I didn’t realize was that it was quite chilly that night and I didn’t bring my jacket. I toughed it out and ordered food.
The item which stood out for me was camel burger. Camel? I didn’t even know you could eat that. They apparently serve it here. The burger came with a whole plate of fries. As for the taste? I can’t really say. The camel meat was ground up, so you can’t really tell what kind of meat it originally was. Perhaps the original form is tough to chew so they ground it up so it can be easier to eat. Unfortunately, my food got cold quickly because the air was chilly. On the bright side, the roof deck has an excellent view of a nearby minaret which is lit up at night.
