I thought I was done with the medina of Fès. The truth is, the medina is so large that it would take you several days to explore the entire place. I don’t think I have the time, nor the patience to keep getting lost repeatedly here in the medina. Landmarks are difficult to come by and you only remember a place because you already passed it before. I was thinking to making my way back to the blue gate since I thought that I have seen most of the important places here. In an effort to get out, I managed to get myself lost once again. I was surprised to see a river in the middle of the medina.
The Oued Bou Khrareb is a river which flows through the medina. I thought that Fès was too dry for that but I was wrong. What is nice here is that the riverbanks have been fixed up and it is very nice. There are paths along the river to walk and people actually use it. This seems like another one of those rare places where you can find peace and quiet in Fès. There were some kids playing along the river and the ball actually fell into the river. I was expecting them to just jump into the water but it seems that there wasn’t an need to. The river brought the ball near the shore and the kids managed to pick it up. The ball would continue to fall into the river multiple times but I guess I shouldn’t be worried now.
