View of the Countryside in Fès

The hill just outside the medina of Fès is home to the Marinid Tombs, tombs of the ones who rules Fès for two centuries. The probably couldn’t have picked a better spot for their final resting spot. What’s more is that not only can you see the medina of Fès from here, but you can also see the surrounding countryside. The city of Fès is surrounded by rolling hills which make for a picturesque scene. I am quite surprised at how the city of Fès was planned. When I would imagine third world countries, there is usually uncontrolled development and there would be houses all over the place.

It is quite the opposite here. Most of the houses here are limited to only the city while the rest is left alone either as an agricultural area or just plain unused. This is good since it limits the impact the population would have on the environment. Looking to the left, you can see a cemetery as well. There is also another cemetery not too far away from the medina. It seems it is so crowded inside the city that they can only build their cemeteries outside the city. I realize that this spot gives you the option of seeing nature or the city. I think it would be a great place to be to see the sunset.
