From the airport in Marrakesh, I took the bus to the main train station. I have no idea why the train station isn’t connected to the airport and one would need to go through a phalanx of taxi drivers to get to the airport bus which was annoyingly hidden behind the airport car park. Fortunately, the airport staff were very helpful and I managed to find the airport bus. The bus driver was nice enough to tell me when to get off for the train station. By now, I have realized that my English would be of little use here. The main languages of the people here are Moroccan Arabic and French, neither of them I would be familiar with. People would know just enough English to be able to understand you so it is best to speak slowly and clearly. The train to Rabat would be departing at around seven in the evening and it takes more than three hours to get to Rabat. I was regretting planning my accommodations this way but what I can I do now.
The train to Rabat was actually not as bad as I feared it would be. It was very spacious and there weren’t too many people on the train. One thing which confused me was that there are a number of stops in major cities like Casablanca for example. You need to make sure you know which stop to get off lest you end up far away from where you need to be. Rabat was likewise another large city which has multiple train stop. I made the mistake of getting off at Rabat Agdal which not my correct stop. I should have gotten off at Rabat Ville which is the next stop. I ended up taking a taxi to the old medina where my accomodations Dar Amine was. It was very grateful that the owners of the dar were still able to welcome me in. By then, I was so tired that I just wanted to sleep. It has been a full day of traveling for me. The owners of the dar were also about to go to sleep if I hadn’t called. I appreciate their hospitality in welcoming me despite the late hour. I didn’t get to enjoy the dar since I only slept in it and I had to leave the next day to catch my next train. Didn’t I say that I planned this trip badly?
