It was the end of a very nice visit to Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, I do not have a direct flight home so I need to head back to Minneapolis to catch my flight the next day. The nearest large airport here is the appropriately named Glacier Park International Airport. This was the same airport I came through coming here. It is set outside the city of Kalispell so I don’t have to worry about driving through the city. It is no New York City, but it is still a city nonetheless and I don’t have to have to worry about getting lost there. Most people coming to Glacier National Park would be coming through this airport so it is close enough to a few towns as well like Whitefish and Columbia Falls.
For an international airport, Glacier Park International Airport is very small. It is by no means a major hub like Minneapolis would be but I thought the airport would be larger since it is a major tourist destination. This probably makes things easier anyway. Checking in was a breeze and always, everyone needs to go through security. I noticed that the staff here a much friendlier than other airports. They are no less strict with security but at least they treat you well. The airport has only two levels, the first level is the main waiting area and where the gates are as well. There are a few shops here selling souvenirs in case you haven’t gotten one yet. I thought that seating at the waiting area wasn’t enough but it turns out that there was another level with seats. It would have been nice to see Glacier from here but there were too far away to see. Looking at the schedules, it seems Minneapolis was my easiest way to get here. I just thought that if I wasn’t initially here for business in Minneapolis, I wouldn’t have made it to Glacier at all.
