The weather forecast for that day doesn’t look good. There would be a winter like snow storm which will hit the area around Glacier National Park that evening. By sheer luck, my flight out of Glacier would be that afternoon, effectively missing the snow storm by hours. On one hand, I would have been interested to see some winter scenery before winter actually hits but at the same time, I know how difficult it is to move around during winter so I guess I’m better off missing the storm. Later I would find out that the eastern part of the park would be hit hardest, basically sparing West Glacier the worst. I wouldn’t haven’t been able to see the winter scenery had I actually been there for a day more.
As I was making my way to the airport at Kalispell, I noticed a shop by the highway – Huckleberry Patch. By now, I know that Glacier is quite famous for their huckleberry and I thought I should give it one more try. Huckleberry Patch has all things huckleberry. At their restaurant, they serve huckleberry pie and also ice cream. I know that it wasn’t the best time to have some ice cream considering how cold it already was. I still had both items as they said, huck-huck. The pie was nice and warm and it was quite nice. What is nice about huckleberries is that it isn’t overly sweet like other berries. The ice cream on the other hand, doesn’t stand out that much. I can’t tell if it was really made from huckleberry so I would just have to take their word for it. They have a souvenir shop as well and their stuff seems to be very well made. You can also take home some jam or even chocolate if you were interested. I think the pie was very nice and it makes me wish that is something I can bring back. But I don’t know if it would survive a transatlantic flight.
