It was already at the tail end of my visit to Glacier National Park and I have stayed here a good several days. I have hiked some and been to a few very beautiful places. However, one thing which eluded me was the famed wildlife here. I keep seeing warning about bears here. People I would meet along the way, would carry bear spray or some noisemaker just to make the bears aware of your presence. Although I haven’t been to the more remote places, I would have thought that it would have been very common to see them. I didn’t have such luck to see these wildlife. I saw squirrel and eagles but that was pretty much it. I was hoping to see the larger mammals here.
At Bowman Lake, I finally had my chance to see this wildlife. As I was taking photos of the lake. A fellow visitor called me and pointed at a deer. It wasn’t very close but you can still see it. It was hiding behind some trees. After a while, I came to the lake itself and drank water. It was very excited. You try to contain your excitement since it might startle the animal and it runs off. Another few minutes later, there was a pair of deer again but I think they got startled and they moved off away from the lake. They are obviously familiar with the lake and they would be back soon. For me, it was a magical encounter to see these animals in the wild. Considering that not too many people would be making it all the way here to Bowman Lake, I think the deer would be pretty secure here. Ultimately, that would be my only close encounter with wildlife. I would meet people who say they saw bears from afar. I was just glad that I didn’t have a close encounter with a bear myself.
